BrewDog PLC, Scotland: More Capacity for Punks
A punk image, great craftsmanship, and the media-friendly flirtation with breaking taboos – with these ingredients, BrewDog PLC has rushed from success to success since 2007. BrewDog brewed 1,050 hectoliters in its first year, and by 2014 it had already brewed 90,000 hectoliters. And things have continued at a similarly exponential pace in recent years.
In order to be able to adequately follow its marketing and sales talent in terms of brewing technology, BrewDog has consistently relied on the cooperation with Ziemann Holvrieka since 2013. A real milestone was reached in 2016, the year in which the two partners built a state-of-the-art brewing facility at the Ellon site in the northeast of Scotland. In this project, Ziemann Holvrieka was responsible for the production, delivery, installation, automation and commissioning of the complete process technology from the grist mill to the connection to the filling plant.
Since then, orders for new tanks, an additional lauter tun, and in 2017 for another brewhouse project have followed at regular intervals. The new brewhouse was built next to the existing brewery in Ellon and connected to its cold block. Specifically, the brewhouse can knock out up to 12 brews per day, each with 500 hl of cold wort. The major order also included upgrades in the filter and pressure tank cellar and in yeast management. Ziemann Holvrieka again handled the entire project consisting of the construction of a new brewhouse and the cold block expansion on a turnkey basis, i.e. including engineering, project management, installation, automation, commissioning and training.
